A Family Reunited

One of the happiest moments at the Village is when we see our children reunited with their families.

This is what we all work towards, and this is what you support when you engage in our mission through donations, volunteerism, mentoring, and participation in our activities and special events.  The concept of “It takes a Village to raise a child” holds true in every sense.  There is not a day that goes by where we do not recognize and appreciate the collective effort involved to reach these special moments.

Dilicia and her children were recently reunited last month after having been in foster care at SOS for the past two years.  When asked what is the most gratifying thing about having her family back together, Dilicia replied, “ The best thing is waking up to them every morning.” Her advice to anyone who has their child placed in foster care is to “keep at it, do everything you need to do, and follow the plan provided to get your kids back. No one wants children to live in foster care forever.  Just do what you need to do and you will get them back!”

Reunification is always the number one goal when a child is placed in foster care. This is followed by adoption, and the last scenario is that a child will age out of care when they turn eighteen.  At SOS we have a plan for each step of the way with programs and services for our youth to prepare them to thrive under all circumstances.
